The Grey Horse | Elvington

Opposite the green on the main street of Elvington and just a short distance from the Way of the Roses coast to coast cycle route, The Grey Horse is a picture-postcard village inn dating back to the 17th century. Window boxes adorn the whitewashed frontage, and this newly-refurbished establishment now offers superb lunch and dinner menus. You can find our pub six miles southeast of York on the B1228, and for visitors exploring this marvellous city, The Grey Horse provides a pleasant and convenient base in two bedrooms - a double and a family room - with superb comfort and full facilities.

Even closer, just over a mile away, is one of the most interesting museums in the whole region - the Yorkshire Air Museum, with its unique collection of over 40 aircraft and numerous displays, located on one of the very few original wartime bomber bases open to the public.

Accommodation

Our two bedrooms offer superb comfort and full facilities - and a scrumptious cooked breakfast is always on offer the very next morning.

The Grey Horse is the perfect base to explore the countryside, pay a trip to the Yorkshire Air Museum and nearby York Maze in the summer months, or visit historic York, with its cobbled streets and magnificent Minster.

Further afield, The Grey Horse is in easy distance of the Yorkshire Coast, as well as the shopping hubs of Harrogate and Leeds. Book a room with us today, and enjoy a well-earned break in a welcoming village pub.

Food & Drink

With a focus on fine Yorkshire fayre, and five rotating beers, The Grey Horse offers a superb experience, whether you're popping in for a pint after a country walk, or planning a special dinner with friends.

Our family run pub has lunch and dinner menus as well as a private dining room, The Officers' Mess, available for hire. Our bar snacks go down a treat too - choose from a selection of tasty goodies such as a pint of onion rings, pulled pork nachos and black pudding bon bons.

The new Grey Horse restaurant and private dining room feature many splendid photographs courtesy of the Air Museum. Pop in and take a look around - we look forward to welcoming you!

We open at 16:30 on Monday and Tuesday and 11:30 every other day, serving lunch 12.00-15.00 Wednesday to Saturday and our new extended menu from 17:00-21:00 Tuesday to Saturday.  On Sundays, we serve food 12:00-16:00.

News, Events and Offers

“Quaint Yorkshire pub”

Attending an event in the immediate vicinity, we booked the closest hostelry which was the Grey Horse Inn. We booked all rooms for the night and it was good! We arrived in time for a late lunch and the pub to ourselves. The Inn is a typical country inn with friendly and welcoming staff, good food, and great atmosphere.

“Tasty food ,cheerful service”

Called in for lunchtime snack for my wife and I. There is a good selection of real ales and my pint of farmers blonde was excellent . We both opted for sandwiches which were served with salad and chips. The sand wiches were tasty on a lovely breadstick and were good value. A special mention for the smiling friendly service.

“Great pub small and friendly”

Picked this pub on the reviews and so glad we did. We stayed 2 nights over the weekend and thoroughly enjoyed it ,the staff and Amanda and Andy were so welcoming. My husband was thrilled with the Tetleys beer best he had had. Breakfast first class in fact all food was good we ate both nights. Saturday was our wedding...

“Mr Eastwood”

Great pub with quality ales, didn't have a meal but looked and smelled great, lovely atmosphere, amazing nights sleep. Superb breakfast in a relaxed eating area. Only ten minutes from york - recommended.

“Really comfortable country pub”

The thought of staying in a pub had never really appealed to me before now. The staff are friendly, the atmosphere is great. A traditional pub downstairs and more than comfortable quite room with en-suite upstairs. The home-cooked breakfast is more than enough to get you through the day. It's 7 miles outside the city centre in a picturesque village....
