The Bay Horse
The Bay Horse | Green Hammerton
The Bay Horse Inn is a traditional family-run old English Inn that dates back to the 17th century, with log fires and beamed bar/dining areas. Situated in the picturesque village of Green Hammerton we are close to the Way of the Roses coast to coast cycle route and provides lock-up facilities for bicycles. Our ten guest rooms are set in a courtyard with private entrances and are all equipped with a TV and tea and coffee facilities. All of them have en- suite facilities with a bath or shower and complementary toiletries.
This lovely village pub offers a traditional fireside bar and restaurant as well as free Wi-Fi in the bar area and free on-site parking. Both the Yorkshire Dales and the North York Moors can be reached within a 30-40 minute drive.
Jon and Tina Clarke and family offer you a warm and friendly welcome to the Bay Horse Inn. The Bay Horse Inn serves a variety of homemade meals daily as well as a traditional Sunday lunch, with high-quality meat, locally supplied and reared within 5 miles of the inn. A fully cooked English breakfast is served daily. The cosy wood-beamed bar offers a range of cask-conditioned real ales, good quality wines and spirits, as well as tea and coffee.
“Brief Visit. But Very Pleasant!”
We stopped at the Bay Horse Inn for a quick drink as we arrived too early for a wedding we were attending at the local church. The Inn has plenty of off street parking and a delightful little garden area immaculately kept.
The owner/landlord was very pleasant, greeting us on arrival, and very chatty and helpful during our brief visit. He was very generous in letting us leave our cars in the car park whilst attending the wedding. I cant really review anything else due to our short stay but the service and amenities we did encounter were very good.
“Last minute overnight stop. Very welcoming”
We needed a stopover going south and found this on trip advisor while motoring on the A1, perfect for us and our dogs. John could not have been more helpful. The courtyard room was clean and well equipped. Plenty of parking and local stroll along the lane. Evening meal and breakfast were just right for us.
“Great food and great Landlord”
Lovely meal at this cosy village pub. Great friendly service from John (Landlord) and good to meet Tina (wife). John makes a great curry, thanks for a welcoming and well priced meal. The rooms are newly decorated and smart. This is a great location for york in a friendly viliage pub.
“Off the Beaten Track”
Now the A56 by-passes Green Hammerton, it would be easy to forget this lovely village and great pub.
The current landlords (John and Tina), I understand, took over in Dec. last year and have set about improving everything. As I hadn't set foot in Green Hammerton for a long time, I can't comment on how the pub was previously. What I can say is that it is well worth taking the slight detour off the A56 to sample their warm hospitality and excellent food.
"As a meeting a place halfway between Harrogate and York, it is ideal"
The sign of a warm welcome is when, having visited on a Monday with one friend, I decided to take another today (Friday) and was greeted by John asking me if I wanted a lime and soda (my Monday tipple - I was driving) again as well as offering us the same seat in the window.
On both occasions, we had the soup (excellent home-made) and rare beef sandwiches which were delicious and served with wonderful chunky chips.
